Your First Visit
Here is What to Expect on Your First Visit
Your first visit is very important to your recovery and there are quite a few steps that you have to go through. Sometimes patients don’t realize that all of these steps really are important and it may seem slow – especially when you’re in pain. We know that, but each step in the process plays a vital role in helping us discover precisely and exactly what the cause(s) of your discomfort may be. We’ll be as cheerful and helpful as we can to make this as pleasant as possible.
-
Paperwork
Complete a brief questionnaire to help us get to know you. We need very precise information about your problem, your medical history and your general lifestyle. This will help us to diagnose exactly what is causing the problem and help us to prepare a healing program tailored to you. If you prefer to fill in the form at home, download the form and then use your browser’s “Print” option to print it. If you need help answering any of the questions, just give our office a call and one of our staff will be happy to assist you.
01 -
Patient Education
We provide a short 5-minute video to acquaint you with chiropractic in general and explain how you can expect it to do more than just alleviate pain – how we help our patients regain their health.
02 -
Consultation
Next you’ll meet the doctor face to face. At this time the doctor will review the information you’ve provided and go over it with you to make certain that both of you have a clear understanding of what the problem is. The doctor will ask questions to make sure you haven’t forgotten anything that might be important and may also ask questions about past problems and conditions in case there is a chance they might play a role in your treatment.
03 -
Examination
The doctor will then ask you to go through some standard physical, orthopedic, neurological, and chiropractic tests to determine the cause(s) of your problem. These consist primarily of having you perform some very gentle range of motion movements and are not invasive in any way. This helps to pinpoint all areas of pain, stiffness and physical stress.
04
-
X-ray Exam
The symptoms of some physical problems may require that the doctor take X-rays. This is particularly important for neck and low back injuries. The X-rays allow the doctor to really focus in on not just the specific area, but also the orientation of the problem. Discs, for example, can be out of alignment in a variety of ways (forward, backward, up, down, right side, lefts side or a combination). The X-ray gives a clear picture. It also establishes a baseline so that subsequent X-rays can be used to check the effectiveness of the treatment.
05 -
Correlation
Before proper care can be rendered the doctor will study your examination findings. Later, you’ll see your X-rays, review the doctor’s findings, and get specific care recommendations.
06 -
Spinal Adjustments
Spinal adjustments may be given on the first visit. The Doctors of Corrective Spinal Care Of California will use their discretion as to what sort of care you are going to need on your first visit.
07 -
Adjunctive Procedures
The doctor may suggest the application of ice, heat, or the use of some other procedure to help reduce inflammation and make you more comfortable.
08
New Patient Intake Form
During your first visit, you will need to fill out a new patient intake form. In order to save time, you may fill this out online before arriving, or complete it once you arrive.
