All right, hi, guys. Welcome back. Dr. Ian Rassel here. I’m here with—
“Dr. Kose.”
The one, the only, Dr. Kose.
A Simple and Effective Rotator Cuff Exercise
We’re going to go over: How can I strengthen these rotator cuff muscles?
Now, there are a lot of different exercises you can do, from external rotators using bands to all sorts of routines. I want to go over something with you guys that’s really, really simple and really, really effective.
What we’re going to do is start with really light weights. We’re going with two-and-a-half-pound, nice pink dumbbells for Dr. Kose.
He’s going to bring these up into a goalpost position, relaxing the shoulders down. Good grip. Wrists are straight. We’re going to raise the elbows up. Oh, oh, yeah—get them up right there.
Now, go ahead and bring those down nice and slow. The magic is right there. Then, as he comes back, right into the beginning, just like that.
We’re going to go really, really slow—even slower for us, Doc.
Waking Up the Rotator Cuff Muscles
What this is going to do is fire up the rotator cuff muscles, which are in the back of the shoulder. In fact, Doc, why don’t you turn and face to the right?
“Your other right.”
“My other right.”
There we go. Go ahead and grab that guy.
These muscles all the way back here—we want to wake those up. This simple little exercise will help wake those muscles up.
So often, people are on their computers, their heads are bent forward, their shoulders are coming forward, and these rotator cuff muscles are not turning on. They’re not working.
Start Light and Go Slowly
Try adding this routine to your program. Start really light—maybe one pound, two pounds, or a can of soup—and go gently. If something hurts, back off.
With an exercise like this, I’d encourage you to go only 70% of your max. Go slowly.
Hope this helps. Like and subscribe to this video.
